Sean Connery once said that he would never play as James Bond again, with his last film as agent 007 being in the film Diamonds Are Forever which was released in 1971.12 years later, Connery's words were used as the name of the film where for the last time Connery returns as James Bond, Never Say Never Again . It was his wife, Micheline Connery, who came up with the idea to name the film that way, and thanked the  film's final credits .

Seeing Sean Connery back as James Bond is great fun, but that doesn't mean I don't like Roger Moore. By playing seven films, Roger Moore was able to bring humor and sarcasm into Bond. But seeing Sean Connery in his deep, charismatic voice screaming “cool” and seeing himself say “Hi, my name is Bond,” is a joy and reminds me of my first time watching Dr. No , the first James Bond film released in 1962.

Even though this is not a film produced by EON Productions, making it a James Bond that is not in the same universe as other James Bond films, Never Say Never Again is still very James Bond with a story that is not much different. Here, the enemy remains the SPECTRE organization led by Ernst Stavro Blofeld. Blofeld still holds the white cat, which is typical of previous James Bond films, but he is not bald and is played by Max von Sydow.

Interestingly Blofeld is not his main enemy, but the "No. 1 ”SPECTRE named Maximillian Largo, which is based on the character Emilio Largo in the movie Thunderball . Played by Austrian actor, Klaus Maria Brandauer, Largo is one of James Bond's enemies who is quite interesting because of his character who is not flat like most of his enemies. Here Largo, despite having an evil mission, doesn't look like someone who is thirsty for blood. His calm stature makes him smart, making him one of James Bond's clever enemies and indeed deserves to be James Bond's last enemy.

Never Say Never Again tells the story of an aging James Bond. M (Edward Fox), Bond's boss, has deactivated the 00-coded agent so that most of Bond's time is spent teaching. There is something interesting about the old James Bond, with his gray hair. Seeing himself visiting and staying in clinics to regain his stamina is completely different from seeing James Bond really energized, and it makes James Bond look like he's already a veteran.

At a time when the world may no longer need a double-coded 0 agent, SPECTRE throws a tantrum by stealing a United States nuclear rocket and blackmailing it for ransom. M has no other choice but to recall James Bond to solve this problem. And assisted by Felix Leiter, played by former American football player  Bernard Casey and Nigel Small-Fawcett, played by Rowan Atkinson (later known for his role as the main character Mr. Bean ), begins the final adventure of James Bond and Sean Connery.

The storyline still uses the James Bond recipe. The world is threatened by its security, Bond meets a beautiful woman and sleeps with her (enemy or friend doesn't matter), he then meets his enemy and they exchange ideas, Bond encounters a problem that threatens his life, he survives, then searches for the location of his enemy and defeats them, Bond saves world and again ended with a beautiful woman in his arms.

If in other films, maybe the storyline recipe that is used continuously will be boring, but somehow James Bond always feels exciting even though it uses the same plot. Sean Connery may also be the best James Bond, where this time he provides depth that he never gave when playing James Bond before and that is what makes  Never Say Never Again better than most James Bond, namely how the human and emotional side of it is. the character is more visible and more pronounced.

Released the same year as Octopussy  - the thirteenth James Bond film starring Roger Moore -  Never Say Never Again did not achieve as much commercial success as  Octopussy , but it is a better James Bond film. Yes, there is no opening scene and iconic music and Sean Connery just says "Hi, my name is Bond," without going on to say "James Bond," but this is a James Bond film that manages to provide depth that is rarely found.
