Marvel in 2022 All the Movies and Shows Coming This Year
Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has a lot to oversee in the new year, with the return of Thor (and a new Thor), the Black Panther sequel looking to find someone else to take up the mantle, and a Doctor movie. Strange who has much more enthusiasm. than its predecessor.
Yeah, while the previous year seemed to focus on the side Avengers and their siblings (not calling out Loki, we loved your show), 2022 looks to be huge for Marvel. And just like last year, we've got some exciting new Disney Plus shows on the horizon, but most of this year's shows star heroes that may be entirely new to audiences.
Oh, and Sony Pictures has new movies in its Spider-Man universe, which counts as connected to the MCU. It all makes for a busy year where you'll find it hard to keep track of the many new faces on the scene. So we decided to make a guide to all the Marvel movies and shows in 2022.
Morbius (January 28)
No, don't run away! Morbius, starring Jared Leto, is indeed an MCU movie, or at least as much as any Spider-Man movie is, since we know it exists within that universe (the Morbius trailer was riddled with references).
Not familiar with Morbius, the Living Vampire? We guess many are, so here's what you need to know. Dr. Michael Morbius was plagued with a condition he was seeking to cure, only to find himself in a cave where an incident with many bats basically turned him into some sort of vampire.
Morbius not only lives in the same world as Spider-Man, but shares a timeline with some familiar faces and names from that world. Michael Keaton appeared in the trailer as Adrian Tooms (who became The Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming), the cops reference Venom in the trailer, and Oscorp Tower looms over his head. There's even a newspaper version of The Daily Bugle, which feels like a nod to the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies.
Will you be transmitting? Not on January 28, but it's coming to Disney Plus eventually, thanks to a deal between Sony and Disney .
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (May 6)
Benedict Cumberbatch has a sequel, but it's not entirely his own. Elizabeth Olsen will appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as a post-WandaVision Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, who is likely searching for her estranged children. She also has to deal with Loki (Tom Hiddleston), as the titular multiverse was torn apart at the end of Loki's season 1 finale.
And going off of that title, we hope this movie deals with more than just the anger of Mordo, who is probably still very anti-sorcerer. To make things better, this movie is directed by Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead, Spider-Man), and this presence makes everyone expect a more terrifying movie than the last edition. Olsen has said that this is the scariest MCU movie yet, which is exciting. They can't all be easy projects, right?
Will you be transmitting? Disney Plus Premier Access is apparently on hold, so we'd expect it to be in service in July 2022, given how long it took Eternals and Shang-Chi to arrive on Disney Plus.
Ms. Marvel (Summer 2022)
Kamala Khan, the first "new to the MCU" character to get her own series, would be totally excited to learn that she has her own show. Khan (who becomes Ms. Marvel in the series) is just your everyday teenager and a giant Captain Marvel fan. Khan will be played by Iman Vellani, who is actually making her screen debut in this role. Talk about a star creation situation.
Khan becomes Ms. Marvel (Marvel's first Muslim character with her own comic) when she gains many powers, including shape-shifting abilities. The series appears to be a pure origin story, with seemingly low stakes for the newbie.
Ms. Marvel isn't the only item in her MCU dossier, as the upcoming Captain Marvel 2 (The Marvels) will see her co-star alongside Brie Larson. And since Khan is in New Jersey, there's always a slim chance he'll run into some of New York's best defenders, like Daredevil. is going back to the MCU.
Thor: Love and Thunder (8 de julio)
Well, you know how we haven't seen Thor's beloved Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) in a while? Well, it looks like we're about to get a lot of her in Thor 4: Love and Thunder. Sharing some of the plot with a recent Marvel comic story, Dr. Foster will become the new Thor, with all the powers and cool armor that comes with the position. There's no sign of Jane getting her own version of Loki, though we'd love to see Sylvie Laufeydottir (the female Loki played by Sophia Di Martino) return from the Loki series.
Of course, expect Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson to reprise their roles as Thor and Valkyrie, though they're not alone. Some of the Guardians of the Galaxy, including Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and Drax (Dave Bautista) will be joining in on the fun. We've heard a rumor that Russell Crowe has some sort of role as well.
As for a villain? Christian Bale will play Gorr, the butcher god, driven by revenge, who is angry at the gods who didn't save his family.
Will you be transmitting? Without Disney Plus Premier Access, we expect it to be on the service by September 2022.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part 1) (October 7)
One of the best Spider-Man movies in history is finally getting a sequel, as we return to the Spider-Verse in October. Sony's incredibly animated Miles Morales origin story was too good to keep in isolation, especially since its Spider-Verse, which brought in Peter Porker for screaming out loud, has so much potential for creativity.
That's why we're giddy to see that Oscar Isaac is back as the voice actor for Spider-Man 2099, aka Miguel O'Hara, who is seen fighting Miles in the trailer. Despite a new enemy, this trailer has Miles to be very happy about. Spider-Gwen is back, traveling to Miles's timeline.
Will you be transmitting? Not on its theatrical release day, but it will eventually come to Disney Plus, thanks to a deal between Sony and Disney .
Moon Knight (expected in 2022)
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the MCU, Oscar Isaac has another Marvel Project on his hands, starring Moon Knight. The series will be another MCU debut for a character who has remained in the comics pages until now: Marc Spector, who becomes a vigilante named Moon Night.
Unfortunately, this road to crime fighting won't be easy, as Spector is a conduit for the Egyptian moon god Khonshu and Spector suffers from dissociative identity disorder (DID). Or maybe he just thinks he's connected to a deity. Only time will tell. The vampire hunter Blade is rumored to make his full MCU debut in Moon Knight, after being teased at the end of Eternals.
Ethan Hawke has been cast in the series, but we don't know if he will be a villain or an ally.
Will you be transmitting? Moon Knight is a Disney Plus show, so yeah! But we don't have a firm release date yet, it's only expected in 2022.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (11 de noviembre)
Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever can see its grand meta-story come to life on the big screen, as the passing of Chadwick Boseman created the need for a new Black Panther.
Fan theories have suggested that Shuri (Letitia Wright) is one of the potential successors, which is now more possible than ever since Wright was confirmed to be in the movie (after rumors had her against Disney). and Marvel for allegedly being against getting a Covid-19 vaccine).
We'd also vote for M'Baku (Winston Duke) to claim that title, as Duke proved to be a scene stealer in the first Black Panther. We expect to see Daniel Brühl appear, as Baron Helmut Zero was taken into Wakandan custody at the end of Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
She-Hulk (expected in 2022)
One Hulk isn't enough for the MCU in 2022. Jennifer Walters (played by Tatiana Maslany) is coming to meet the Hulk we already know. Not only did Mark Ruffalo appear in a featurette available only on Disney Plus for Disney Plus Day, but Maslany already said the iconic line "you wouldn't like me when I'm mad."
But coming to the series in question, the buzz about the Maslany-led show is coming from two places. Jamila Jamil has been cast as Titania, and Walters' day job as a lawyer has led many to think this is an excellent opportunity for Charlie Cox's (okay, technically his Matt Murdock) Daredevil to make it to the MCU.
Will you be transmitting? She-Hulk is a Disney Plus show, so yeah! But we don't have a firm release date yet, it's only expected in 2022.
Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special (Holiday Season 2022)
Is Star-Lord's Christmas adventure going to be a fun throwaway, or will it be his way of jogging Gamora's memory? Because, remember, the Gamora that emerged from Avengers: Endgame is not the same one we saw in Guardians Vol. 2.
Either way, we're getting our first MCU Christmas special in late 2022. The series will be written and directed by James Gunn, and will launch afterward between Thor: Love and Thunder and Guardians Vol. 3. There's no word on its length, but It should be between 30 and 60 minutes.
At a minimum, we assume that at least one Guardian will learn the meaning of the Christmas season. An easily confused Drax is always possible, but considering how moody Star-Lord can get, we're not overlooking him.
Secret Invasion (scheduled for 2022)
Skrulls, if you haven't read the comics or seen Captain Marvel (or the post-credits scenes of Spider-Man: Far From Home or WandaVision) in a while, are a prominent shape-shifting alien race from the MCU. And it turns out that some of them have infiltrated the highest offices in the world.
And that's the story behind Secret Invasion, where Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Talos the Skrull (Ben Mendelsohn) team up to stop these Skrulls from doing this Hydra-esque espionage (how easy is it to infiltrate our government?)
Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, Kingsley Ben-Adir and Christopher McDonald are also on the show. And McDonald is doing a poor job of denying that he is Norman Osborn.
Will you be transmitting? Secret Invasion is a Disney Plus series, so yeah! But we don't have a firm release date yet, it's only expected in 2022.
