The title Promising Young Woman in the film written and directed by director Emerald Fennell

refers to the character of the main character, Cassandra Thomas ( Carey Mulligan ). When she was in college to study medicine, she was known as a smart woman with more knowledge than her peers. Unfortunately, a tragedy made him no longer interested in continuing his education and chose to drop out of college. 

Several years after the incident, at the age of now 30 years old, Cassandra Thomas still chooses to live the life she wants: working in a cafe owned by her friend Gail ( Laverne Cox) during the day as well as going out for fun at a number of clubs at night. The life choices were enough to make her parents ( Clancy Brown and Jennifer Coolidge ) worry. However, his meeting with a doctor named Ryan Cooper ( Bo Burnham ) immediately changes the life of Cassandra Thomas and those around him.

It is easy to see and analyze how Fennell drew inspiration from his film storytelling from the persistence of mistreatment of women from the environment (read: men) with regard to sexuality - particularly from the #MeToo movement that has been widely voiced in recent years. However, Fennell doesn't just want to make Promising Young Woman a voice mouthpiece about a feminist movement.

Through the color of the black comedy story, Fennell's ambition is to open the veil of being a victim of sexual harassment, not only due to the evil deeds that have been committed to her body but also the treatment and reaction of others when a woman tries to find protection after going through this dark incident. Familiar with flicks like, "The clothes you wear are so minimal. That's why, "or," That's why women have to dress modestly, "or," Yes, it's wrong for women to come home at night? " His behavior is always like that "? The act of blaming a victim of sexual harassment which Fennell also tries to discuss through his story script. But, unfortunately, it is still often found in everyday life.

The management of the story of Promising Young Woman itself does not only revolve around a single theme of storytelling about rape culture . Throughout the 113 minutes of his narrative, Fennell gave a touch of a sweet romance drama about the relationship between the characters Cassandra Thomas and Ryan Cooper.

Promising Young Womennever feel hesitant in expressing his various clever ideas to produce a presentation that will leave such a deep impression as well as a number of thoughts about the position of women in their daily environment. An achievement that may not mean much to some but is definitely a better achievement than doing nothing at all.

Of course, aside from Fennell's script and direction, the soul and soul of Promising Young Woman's presentation rests in the performance that Mulligan has provided. As a woman who is trying to heal her deep scars from the past, Mulligan looks so convincing in bringing every scene to life. Tough, strong, although it can still look fragile in appearance.
