Malcolm & Marie stars two young stars whose names have been rising in Hollywood

Malcolm Elliot (Washington), a director returns home with his girlfriend, Marie (Zendaya) after attending the premiere of Malcolm's latest film. Also acting as executive producer, both Washington and Zendaya were able to deliver a solid performance although not to an extraordinary degree in their respective roles. They were able to create chemistry that was convincing enough to fulfill what Levinson was trying to aim at with his script. Especially Zendaya, Levinson's collaborator in the Euphoria series, as if enjoying his appearance as a troubled lover, presenting a character that looks tough but is actually tinged with heartbreaking fragility.

Although compared to the performance of other duets with other films with more or less the same theme (such as Leonardo DiCaprio - Kate Winslet on Revolutionary Road or Adam Driver-Scarlett Johansson in Marriage Couple) Malcolm & Marie is still a little out of class, that doesn't mean this film then can just be passed up. The reason is, with a monochrome presentation style that makes the visuals quite aesthetically pleasing, coupled with the choice of soundtrack songs, Malcolm & Marie provides a spectacle that is quite fun to watch. As a complete package, Malcolm & Marie offers a portrait that is not only beautiful but also very vivid about the image of human relationships, an unconventional romantic drama that is hard to forget and feels right to be watched with your partner on Valentine's moment.
