Review of Lenovo ThinkBook 14s G2 ITL: Fast, Economical, Tough

We are back with a review unit from Lenovo Indonesia, namely the Lenovo ThinkBook 14s ITL G2. The Lenovo ThinkBook 14s is a mid-range business laptop from Lenovo aimed at MSMEs who need a Business Laptop at a more affordable price. But even though it is presented at an affordable price, this device also uses the 11th Generation Intel Core processor Tiger Lake.

In comparison, the previous generation ThinkBooks we've tested used mostly Intel 10th Generation “Comet Lake” processors, and haven't even used 10th Gen Intel Core “Ice Lake” processors. So this is quite a big improvement offered by Lenovo for its business laptop line up this time.

Design

Lenovo ThinkBook14s comes with a camshell design or Classic Laptop. The body design looks simple, and is still like the previous generations of ThinkBook line-up. There is a logo that accentuates the ThinkBook identity on the back of the screen.

There is a kind of border that divides the area at the back of the screen in half. The center-top part of the screen is equipped with a Notch, making it easier for users when they want to open the laptop screen. There is ThinkBook writing engraved on Notch.

Like the Thinkbook series in general, which offers high durability, this device has also passed the MIL-STD-810G military standard test. The material used is aluminum with an anodizing sandblasting process. The color offered is Mineral Gray.

This laptop has a weight of 1.26 Kg, with an additional 185gram charger adapter. This available charger has an output of 65Watt with a Type C connector. Overall this device weighs 1.44Kg. As for the dimensions, this laptop is 32.2 cm long, 20.7 cm wide and 1.49 cm thick.

Turning to the screen, this laptop uses an IPS panel with a size of 14 inches Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080p), with a refresh rate of 60 Hz. Its color coverage is 100% sRGB, with a brightness level of 300 nits.

The laptop screen has also passed the TUV Low Blue Light Certified, which ensures the blue light produced by the screen is safe and comfortable for the eyes. There is an Eye Care feature that can be accessed through the Lenovo Vantage software.

The screen surface uses Anti-Glare which of course makes the laptop comfortable to use without light reflections that interfere with work focus.

The screen frame looks thin, both on the left and the top, although the top side has a 720p 30fps camera. The camera is equipped with a Lenovo ThinkShutter cover which will enhance user security.

The monitor screen can be opened up to 180 degrees, typical for business laptops. This will make it easier for users to display content on the screen to the other person during a meeting. There is a Flip to Start feature that can turn on the laptop automatically when the screen is opened on Lenovo Vantage.

For the audio, there are 2 Stereo Speakers with 2W power tuned by Harman Kardon. Built-in speakers Located on the bottom right and left of the laptop. There is Dolby Audio software to change the Audio Preset and Equalizer.

One of them supports the Always ON USB feature - it can be used to charge smartphones when the laptop is in sleep / hibernate / power off conditions

Unfortunately, one Thunderbolt connector is also used for charging, making this laptop have to use battery power if the Thunderbolt device used cannot supply electricity to the laptop. This means that if you use an External GPU device that cannot supply electricity to the laptop, the overall performance will not be optimal because it uses battery power.

On the keyboard, this laptop uses a Chiclet keyboard design with the feel and layout of a Lenovo ThinkBook, the up and down arrow keys are small - half the height of the other keys. The keyboard has a white backlit with 2 levels of brightness, which can be adjusted using the fn + spacebar keys.

While the touchpad, the size is quite comfortable, not too big or small, with a center to spacebar position so that you don't often bump your palms when typing. There is no right / left click button, and this touch pad supports Windows Precision Driver.
